GCSE Season

Good luck to our Year 10 and 11 students. Year 10 completed their first GCSE exam earlier this week, with a focus on Of Mice and Men and Poetry. Year 11 have their final Literature exam on An Inspector Calls and Heroes this afternoon. Year 11's final Language exams take place after half term.

We wish them luck as both year groups have been attending extra revision sessions and making the most of their time in school to fully prepare.

2013-2014 in full swing!

A belated welcome back to all our Penglais students and parents. We look forward to another productive year, having been delighted by the achievements of 2012-2013's Year 11 this August!

Please visit this page again for updates on course texts, trips and other news; parents of GCSE students may like to look at the course outlines in the GCSE section. WJEC changes have required some movement of our study units throughout Years 10 and 11.

Many thanks,
~PED

Another year almost over!

Our GCSE students have all been working exceptionally hard this year. Well done to Year 11, who have successfully survived the final exam season - we hope to see many of you back for Sixth Form next year. It's time now for Year 10 to start looking forward to Year 11, and Year 9 should be thinking about Year 10!

Current Year 9s may benefit* from reading the following over the summer break:
  • Romeo and Juliet - Shakespeare
  • Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck
  • a variety of poetry
  • a good spread of non-fiction texts (articles, reviews, reports, speeches, etc)

Current Year 10s could also plan ahead* and read this list of texts:
  • An Inspector Calls - JB Priestley
  • Heroes - Robert Cormier
  • and again, a good spread of non-fiction texts.
Get in touch with your English teachers if you would like advice about revision guides or other ways of preparing, and add a little academia to your holidays!

*These are the texts currently on our syllabus for study and use in our GCSE exams.
